Every bride dreams of looking flawless and radiant on her wedding day, right? It might seem like a minefield but having perfect glowing bridal makeup is achievable and there are several things you and your MUA can do to ensure you have your dream glowy skin! The key to your radiant bridal skin is a combination of smart skincare, tried and tested makeup techniques, and the right products for you. Get these three right and you'll have that coveted luminous bridal glow in no time.
Step 1: Skincare.
The foundation of any radiant makeup look is healthy, well-nourished skin. Establishing (and maintaining) a great skincare routine is essential in the months leading up to your big day. Begin by cleansing your skin regularly to remove impurities, using a gentle exfoliator to remove any dead skin cells, and moisturising to keep your skin hydrated. I always use a serum as an addition with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C to brighten and plump the skin. Consistency is key in your skincare to achieving that natural glow.
Step 2: Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
Proper hydration is fundamental to achieving luminous skin. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Water helps flush out toxins and keeps your skin looking fresh and radiant. Adding hydrating masks or overnight treatments to your skincare routine occasionally can also help to boost moisture levels and ensure your skin is plump and supple.
Step 3: Prime for a smooth base
Before diving into the makeup, ensure your skin is prepped with a good primer that works for you. there are TONNES on the market, so spend the time to understand what is going to work for your skin (or ask your MUA). For bridal radiance, I always reach for a primer with illuminating properties to enhance the natural glow of your skin.
Step 4: The Right Foundation
Selecting the right foundation is crucial and if you've opted for a MUA, we've got you girl! Opting for a foundation with a luminous finish and a dewy, radiant formula is a must for me! Making sure you have the perfect shade match and blending seamlessly into the skin for a natural look is key, along with buffing into the skin instead of simply painting your product on.
Step 5: Highlight to the gods!
There are SO many highlighters on the market, I recommend choosing a finely milled, luminous highlighter that compliments your skin tone perfectly. Focus on areas that naturally catch the light - the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and the cupid's bow. Avoid overdoing it, as subtlety is absolutely key for a timeless and elegant bridal look.
Step 6: Blush for a blushing bride
This is often the step people want to avoid, but... a touch of blush adds warmth and radiance to your skin and helps a look really tie together. Always opt for a blush shade that complements your skin tone and wedding theme. I always recommend a cream blush as it applies more seamlessly and gives a dewy finish a powder cannot provide. Peachy and rosy tones are classics for bridal and I always reach for them in my kit.
Step 7: Contouring and setting.
Contouring is excellent for enhancing your natural bone structure. However, be very careful - for a bridal look, opt for a softer and more natural contour. Use a matte bronzer to subtly contour the hollows of your cheeks, jawline, and the sides of your nose and make sure you are blended, blended and blended again. any harsh lines can ruin a radiant glow and looking muddy instead of shining. To make sure you are set for the day, a translucent powder in the T-zone areas (where we all can get a little oily) is perfect and we're going to want to leave it at that.... over powdering takes away the radiant finish of the make up. To set the whole face, a setting spray is essential, and it gives you an extra little glow boost!
